Forward Russia!/The Get Outs-Moles-21.7.05

All gimmicks, no matter how cool get boring after a while. Except for
iPods and flavoured ketchup. So headliners Forward Russia!’s lightning
strike flailings and castrato yelping in an Art Brut/Bloc Party style is
all a bit like so…January.

Support, Bristol’s The Get Outs don’t need to rely on bi-cut fringes and
fancy jackets because they are one of those unfashionable types of
band-bloody great. And Kate Moss isn’t here. Actually no-ones here apart
from a few extras from Shaun of the Dead who are finally roused them
from their cheap vodka torpor by the Boeing 747 sound of the guitars and
singer David’s roaring melodic Frank Black/Lambert and Butler voice. Big
choruses leap, angry bass rumbles and it’s so gloriously blokeishly
unpretentious. ‘This is a song about drowning’, they say and hey presto,
a great song with a ‘drowning’ chorus. They’re the sort of band that
could impress weather and cider seasoned regulars at a local pub or wow
thousands at a Make Terrorism History gig with their big punchy anthems.
See you in the golden circle…
